Oh so pretty!

My BFF from work and I went to get manicures at Plesanton Nails off of Santa Rita Rd. The girls were super fast and very nice. My simple manicure was only $12. I will be back for another soon. They also have the gel Polish too (that’s the pretty black and silver pic). That was only $25. It doesn’t chip and last about 3 weeks.

Kicking Booty

I am totally in love with my gym: 24 Hour Fitness! I worked out on the elliptical for only 30 mins today and burned 300 calories. This is the best machine for burning the most calories with the least amount of time. I like the interval program that switches from a low resistance to a high resistance. Today, I had my low at 1 and my high at 10. I also had some help… I ate my scrambled eggs and ham at lunch so, after work I still had energy to bring it! Tomorrow, will be more of a weight day focusing on the legs. Whoot! I will have to say that working out at a gym helps me stay motivated… there are a lot of fit people there!

Stay motivated and Bring IT!

Pretty Good!

I just tried this hot sauce: La Victoria Salsa Brava. It’s got a little kick to it but what was good was the freshness of the flavor.  It tastes homemade! I like this on scrambled eggs and Ham.

Starbucks Tribute Blend

It is a yummy blend indeed. This particular coffee was blended to celebrate our 40th anniversary of Starbucks. It captivates the history of the growing regions that Starbucks is known for and is a tribute to all our loyal customers, partners, producers and roasters. Tribute Blend delicately combines four of the all time favorite coffees: Ethiopian sun dried beans have an exotic flourish of dark cherry notes; Aged Sumatra is known for its syrupy body and cedary spice notes; Papua New Guinea is loved for its juicy herbal and complex flavors; and last but not least Colombia is a bright, balanced and nutty experience. Mixed all together, this special blend is very smooth but takes your taste buds on a roller coaster. I really enjoy this coffee with a little hazelnut sweetness and cream. This pairs really well with the very berry coffee cake or banana bread. However, this coffee has so much complexity that pumpkin bread and chocolate cinnamon bread is tasty too!

Fitness Apps!

13 - 1 13 - 7

 13 - 6  13 - 8

Endomondo is a great app that tracks exercise and I got the PRO version which adds a lot more tools. I specifically like that on a walk or hike it tracks the route, hart rate, calories, and even how much water you should drink. The apps can also connects to a hart rate monitor which calculates a more accurate calorie burn. It is super easy to use; you literally select a workout and press GO. I also like that it graphs the hart rate and lets you know if your are at rest or kicking booty. I found out early that I wasn’t pushing very hard and was staying in the rest zone. I felt like a zombie working out and I was right LOL! If you wanted to see more there is also a website too.
I also have My Fitness Pal that tracks my daily food and exercise. As long as you are honestly putting in all your food and exercise it will tell you if you are in the red or green at the end of the day. Green is good and red means you ate too much. What is nice is the app syncs to Endomondo so there is no guess work on the calories burned. 😀

A Little Secret…

After a good workout, I eat a lot of high protein foods like chicken, turkey, or eggs. This helps build muscles and helps with not feeling so sore. For chicken, I really like rotisserie chicken from Safeway; especially the Open Nature brand. It is super juicy and falls off the bone. For sliced meats, I really like the deli to fresh cut my meat fresh into thick slices so I can then cut into cubes for salads. I have tried a few varieties of eggs but have found two brands I like the best; for different reasons. I like the “O” organic brown eggs and those I hard boil. I haven’t found the perfect cook method to get the perfect easy peel BUT: if you put your eggs in a pot filled with water then,  bring it to a boil on med/high heat, then set a timer for 8 minutes. Once the timer goes off, immediately fill the pot with ice and cold water.  I leave the pot in the sink until the eggs are cool. Tada… Yummy eggs! Now for scrambled eggs, I really like Egglands Best brand. They taste so good and are a nice color too. I add some sliced black-forest ham and it makes a great little meal. 😀

Eat up!

24 Hour Fitness

I am an official member of a sport club. Mr. Awesome Boyfriend and I have been contemplating getting a gym membership since December. We finally decided to try 24 Hour Fitness because it is close and they have it all! There is a big swimming pool, a basketball court, cardio machines, and weights galore. They also have different classes, trainers, cycle classes, Zumba; the list goes on. We found a really good deal the club was offering and snatched it. But try the free 3 day pass before you decide. We did, and after day one our choice was made. Their equipment and facility is beautiful and really efficient.

So excited and ready to sweat!

No More Dull Salad!

In the pursuit of trying to eat healthier, I have been eating a salad every day with dinner. I am a ranch dressing lover but the calories are not very forgiving. So, I found some new dressings that all have under 90 cal for 2 tablespoons.

Hidden Valley is awesome although I may be totally biased because they carry my favorite ranch! These are pretty good too: the Italian with Herbs has a very nice fresh flavor that you would find in most Italian dishes. This I would put on a spring mix salad with rotisserie chicken, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and cucumbers. The Pomegranate vinaigrette is sweet but very light in taste. I would maybe have this more at lunch time or a late night snack with some mixed greens and maybe some nuts.

I have never tried Ken’s Steak House dressings until now. THEY ARE AMAZING! So far, I give them my ultimate stamp of fork approval! The Caesar Lite tastes SO fresh it is almost sinful how good it is. For obvious reasons, a chicken Caesar salad with some parmesan cheese. The Raspberry
Walnut Vinaigrette is so sweet and delish! I think this would go really good with turkey or chicken and a few fresh vegies.

Last but not least is the Asian Sesame Ginger by Open Nature (a Safeway brand). This has jaw dropping good taste! It has a yummy pineapple, ginger and sesame flavor that would go great with chicken. This dressing is the lowest in cal for 2 tablespoons it’s 35 cal. This can also be used for a marinade.

I pick all these up at Safeway. If you need low calorie dressing, I highly recommend all of these!

The More You Know…

This is so cool! I saw this on Facebook on the page I Fucking Love Science. It is a flower that looks like a monkey… yup that’s right!

These incredible looking flowers are monkey orchids. There are two species shown here, Dracula simia (the ones that look like monkey faces) and Orchis simia (which resemble little dancing monkeys). Dracula simia are only found in the cloud forests of southeastern Ecuador at elevations of 1000 to 2000 meters and their flowers smell likes ripe oranges. Orchis simia are found in Europe, the Mediterranean, Russia, Asia Minor and Iran and the flowers smell strongly of feces!

Don’t mess with monkeys or flowers… LOL

Science is COOL! B-D
