Grocery List Owned!

image

I am really impressed with the Out of Milk app. My shopping list was so easy to use! We clicked on each item and added the price. So, at the end we knew roughly what we were going to spend. I was also able to use a few printed coupons to save a little more. I highly recommend using the Safeway Just 4 U coupons and savings too. In the end, I spent $107.21 and saved over $30 for a weeks worth of groceries. I still have to get a few more items in the middle of the week but it looks like this week I will have some left over for savings. Whoot!

Out of Milk?

Mr.Awesome Boyfriend and I finally sat down to discuss our finances. Over the last few years, we have accumulated a lot of debt. The debt, is mostly credit cards and a lot of student loans. We purchased Quicken 2014 to help organize our payments. Quicken is an awesome way to set up a budget. Now, the first set up is a pain in the booty but it is worth it! The most important information for our credit cards was the APR and the due date of payment. Quicken figured out the best way to pay the credit cards off. Then, Quicken shows you a graph every month of how your accounts are doing. Your main goal is to make sure that your bank accounts to go down to zero dollars. So, monitor and set up your payments wisely.

Before Quicken, I just had automatic payments every week for about $20 for each card. In reality, I was just paying the interest and the card’s balance wasn’t really go down that fast. Then, I would use the cards here and there for small purchases. Yeah, lesson learned. 😀 Once Quicken had a set plan for payments, We went into out bank accounts auto bill pay and set up the correct payments. I am still trying to build a good credit score and my biggest problem is my debt to income ratio is huge.

To continue to build good credit, I decided I would use my Cash Rewards credit card for groceries and ONLY groceries. According to Quicken, I can have $250 for food and household items. I decided to look at this not as punishment but as a game. I want to have our groceries less than $250 a week so, I can but some money into a savings account. Right now, my goal is to have some spending money for a Disney Land trip we are taking in November. We planed this with our dear friends in January… our hotel is already booked!

This is WEEK 1 of the planed budget. I will be honest because we are working out and monitoring our calories our food items are pretty much the same every day. This makes it easy to know exactly how much we are spending AND this makes it easy for me to find coupons! So let me first introduce a new app that was highly rated and helps with grocery shopping. It is called Out of Milk and can be purchased on apple or android devices. We paid for the pro version (it wasn’t that much) that allowed to sync with multiple devices and the online website. Again, the first set up is a pain… X-D

I set up my ‘pantry’ list first. I created multiple categories: birdies, breakfast, camping, dinners, household, hygiene, lunches, pills, spice rack. I had fun and took  screen shot my ‘pantry’ list. I used a red marker to highlight my categories. I found breaking items down into categories was the easiest way to manage it all. The pantry list allows you to add an item by scanning the bar code or you can enter it manually. You can put in how much of an item you have by percent or quantity. If I had an item that was super low, I copied that item to the shopping list. This also allowed me to clean up my kitchen. I threw out a lot things I knew we would never use or was too old.

The shopping list is cool because you can add in the settings sales tax. While you are shopping you can enter the price of the item. It keeps track of how much everything is going to cost so there are no surprises at the register. There is a notes section too, like if you have a coupon.

I also used Google to find the best online printable coupons. I signed up for Coupons.com and LiveBetterAmerica.com. They are free to sign up and have a ton of printable coupons. This would be great for a big family because there was everything from pampers, cereals, beauty products etc. Our household is small, so I printed only the products I know we use. We are pretty brand loyal and I found a coupon for pretty much everything. Now, the coupons are to save a small amount; save $1 or less. However, every little bit adds up. I organized the coupons into two envelops: 1) coupons now and 2) coupons later. It really did not take that long to find the coupons print, cut and organize.

We also decided to help our food budget, we would stop all the mini transactions. Since I work at Safeway, I tend to make at least 3-4 transactions every time I work. Most of those are for less than $5. Those can add up to be a lot in the long run and can really hurt a budget. So, we are shopping only two times a week. With the help of the Out of Milk app, we should always know what we have and need.

Shopping Smart!

Selling ‘PIGTALS’

I am sad to say that we are looking to sell “Pigtails”.

The first thing the needs to be stated is that the engine is seized. We do not know what is wrong, but we believe it happened due to overheating. I was quoted ~$6000 to have it pulled apart and fixed by a local mechanic. I do not know if this is a good or a bad price. I can tell you that the engine is a custom built engene from TDR (http://www.tdr-mx5tuning.com/?page_id=1638) with the addition of 1000cc injectors. I am quite sure many of the parts on the engine can be salvaged. The car also has the TDR Force 2 Turbo Kit on it (http://www.tdr-mx5tuning.com/?page_id=1484).

The second thing would be that this car has many other upgraded parts on it. You can see a list of all of the items at (https://girlinpigtails.com/about-pigtails/). The AWR Motor Mounts 70 Durometer, and Koyo 36mm HyperCore Radiator has not been installed, but will be included with the car. This is probably why the car overheated.

The third thing I would like to mention is that all of the purple bits, aside from the gas door and lug nuts, are stick on parts that can easily be removed by whoever purchases the car. I have and will include the original marble white gas door. Once the gas door, lug nuts are changed and the stick on pieces are removed, there will be no more purple on the car.

The forth thing I would like to note is that the car itself has ~18,000 miles on it. The 2009 6MT transmission and 2009 Driveshaft have ~12,000 miles on them. All other parts on the car have less than 3,000 miles on them (Turbo, Engine Parts, Rotors, Brakes, Wheels, Tires, Exhaust, Suspension).

I am fully aware I am not going to get anywhere near what I have put into this car at this point, especially since the engine is currently seized. But, what I am looking to get is $18,000. I am pretty firm with this price as we have more than that in just the upgrades, let alone the car itself.

The following are additional information reference points for the car…

There is one sure fact in life…

Time always goes by no matter what happens.

I am in a routine now that consists of work, gym, school, house work, sleep. Routines are a good thing. I always know what task is coming up and there are no surprises. I only have about a year until school is done for good. My workout routine is great! I have been losing the holiday gain and my strength is not completely gone. Around mid August, I will go back to the major 5×5 bulking phase. I can’t wait to use my new weight belt and see all those gains.

Sticking to the plan!

Back to the grinding stone…

So, I’m back from a little break. I took about a 3 week break to recover from a hard 12 weeks of heavy lifting. I also gained some weight through muscle gain and at a 1800+ cal diet… some fat gain. For the next 10 weeks, I am on a cutting phase. At least 30min of cardo five days a week. Light weights three times a week. AND a 1300 cal diet. I have found my magic number and exercise program for weight lost. I am also only eating three times a day. I have a protein drink for breakfast.  Either tuna and crackers or leftover Hamburger Helper for lunch. Then, dinner is a side salad and 1.5 servings of Hambuger Helper. After this cutting phase, it is back to heavy lifting!
Just do it…

Stockton Asperigus Festival

I haven’t been here in so long. Mr. Awesome Boyfriend hasn’t been at all. So, we decided to take an adventure! I got my picture taken with a lot of  Miss county beauty queens. But the deep fried asperigus is the BEST thing here! Yummm! Also got to see Berlin featuring  Terri Nunn. Have you ever had asperigus margarita? It is sooo good. There is something here for everyone… all types of bands, food, art, etc. I love festivals!

How Human Are You?

This is my favorite show right now! This show takes a look at human behavior and relates to the behavior of animals. It airs on the Nat Geo Wild channel but you can also find episodes on their website. One interesting fact was that the color red gains the most attention. They tried an experiment were twins went into a bar; one had a red dress and the other had a blue dress. The lady with the red dress received the most male attention. Then, for a twist, the twins changed dresses and went back to their admirers. No one noticed that the twins switched! The lady in the red dress always got the attention. I am so getting more red in my wardrobe!

Exercise Update!

The boyfriend has been traveling which is hard on our workout routine. I also don’t want to try and squat a lot of weight without a spotter. Better to be safe than sorry. Yesterday instead of weight lifting, I met up with a new gym buddy to do an hour of elliptical AKA ellipti-kill. I haven’t done this in a year so, it was pretty tough. It doesn’t help that we were also immersed in conversation. whew! But, it felt good to get a workout in and it sure did help burn the bad calories I have been indulging.

Stay Strong!
