Annapolis

Our city walks have become very popular over the years in our household. Our main goal for city walking is just to be out exercising. There is usually little to no cost compared to other weekend activities like amusement parks or even hiking.

To get started: pick a city you want to go to. I usually try to pick something that is about an hour or so from our house. By the end of the day, the last thing you want, while being exhausted, is a long drive home.

Do a little bit of research.

Find an area in the town you want to explore. Usually downtown areas are the best! Annapolis has a wonderful historic downtown area with plenty of monuments, shops and a water front to get up close and personal with some boats.

Once you know the area, search for where you will park. I ended up finding a great location in Annapolis that was perfect by just searching on Google and reading some reviews. It was a covered garage that had free parking on the weekends and it was far enough away that traffic wasn’t an issue.

As far a food goes, downtowns have unique local places to eat. But because we are trying to lose weight and save some cash, we packed a picnic!

During our walk we found a college campus next to the parking garage. It was a perfect location for a picnic! And during the summer the campus was pretty much all to ourselves.

We ended up walking around the city for about 6 miles exploring the sites and just having a relaxing time.

A couple tips:

Take a ton of pictures! These are great free mementos that capture your experience but you can also use those pictures as reminders of things (or places) you may want to go back and try.

Bring a reusable cup or water bottle to stay hydrated. There is usually a Starbucks or Cafe downtown and ice water is free. It’s also a great place to use the restroom.

Don’t be afraid to take free maps or flyers. These are a great way to find local events or coupons that you might have not known otherwise.

Pack two bags. One for light travel while walking that has the basics like wallets, phones, snacks, etc.

The bigger bag, you can leave in the car and come back to get other necessities like other clothes, bigger food/drink items, etc. You don’t want to lug all that stuff around because it will ware you out and the bulk will make it harder to move around crowded areas.

Remember where you parked. Take a picture of the cross streets or use a phone app that tells you where you left your car. It will come in handy if you are new to the city.

At the end of our trip, it only cost us gas money and we had the best time!

Another tradition I would like to do from now on is find the best local ice cream. I mean come on… you deserve a little treat after a big walk!

Go explore and have fun!

It Begins… (Again)

The hubby and I have always gone through the weight loss fitness journey. We’ve done so many exercise and diet plans from hiking, biking, heavy weight lifting, p90x, intermittent fasting but this year we thought we would try something different… virtual races.

Having a new baby doesn’t leave a lot of time to do an intense workout for 3 hours a day. It’s just too much for us so, we had to come up with something that we could do as a family. We love walking and found The Conqueror Challenges where a prefect fit to loosing our COVID weight gain.

The benefits of the challenges:

You can do it at your own pace with whatever exercise you choose. We decided walking is best for us. It gets us out of the house which is great since we’ve become hermits during the pandemic. Walking is easy for us to do with a 1 year old, all we need is the stroller and some good walking shoes.

The exercise is easy to track. We’ve linked our exercise app (under armor mapmyfitness) to the Conqueror app. Sometimes it takes about a day for the apps to update but it’s an easy press play and go tracker.

The Conqueror Challenges allow for teams to contribute to the overall goal. This brings us accountability and camaraderie.

You get stuff! Depending on the package you buy, you get… Entry into the challenge, Stunning finishers medal, Virtual postcards along the way,
Plant 5 real trees, and/or a T-shirt. This is highly motivating and the minimum package cost is about $30 which at least comes with a medal.

Again, going back to exercise, the best type is the one YOU will do consistently.

In the last 4 weeks, the hubby has lost about 14lbs and I’ve lost 5lbs. We just completed The Inca Trail Challenge which was 26 miles.

We plan to do The Romantic Trail which is 268 miles. The medal is a little beer stein which is perfect to bring on our reward trip.

As a reward for our hard work over the next 13 weeks, we are planning a trip to Busch Gardens Williamsburg on September 4, 2021. We intend to drive down on Friday September 3, 2021 and arrive in time to have a nice dinner and relaxing night. We will have a full day at Busch Gardens on Saturday September 4, 2021 and then travel back home on Sunday September 5, 2021.

If you are new, check out our first adventure and how we did How To: Bier Fest with Beer “Stein” Dude. Can’t wait to do it again!

Invictus Week 2021 Last Day CCU Chains

This is Que and here are the two CCU spreadsheets. I am giving one for the straight CCU Chain and one for the maximizing Store Credit chain all the way up to the Polaris ($210 Savings).

You can pick the Super Hornet or the Gladiator in the chain. They both save the same, but you cannot use both in the chain.

The Constellation Andromeda does not work in the chain as the Inferno gives you a better savings and you cannot have both.

You can pick the Harbinger or the Caterpillar in the chain. They both save the same, but you cannot use both in the chain.

That is it for this event. There is quite a bit of saving to be had if you follow the instructions.

See you in the verse!

Stream Room… Then and Now

Most of you know that we moved from a one bedroom to a townhouse. One of our fist priorities was the stream room.

Started as a couch stream.

Then we upgraded!

Stream Room at the townhouse (Moving Day)

Building the desks.

Stream Room (complete)!

It took a lot of hard work and couldn’t have done it without my best friend and better half. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we do. There are still a few things to add but the majority is done!

See you in the verse!

Control Set-Up #StarCitizen

There are a lot of people who say “how you bind your buttons to your equipment is personal,” and it should be set up to individual needs. But you know what… if someone asks for your set up… why not give it to them?

If someone is asking, they are either new or not comfortable with the controls. I think telling people what actions I have bound to my equipment is essential in keeping players engaged.

Once they have a template to use then, by all means, change the set up to your needs. The set up template is not a secret!

Also, by using a template (as I show here) it helps re-enforce your memory which is the ultimate goal. If you’re too busy pressing all the button because you don’t remember them, you lose the fun aspect.

I will have one GiP Stick Layout that shows my controls and one that is a Blank Stick Layout that you can use to fill in for your own use. Both will be downloadable.

Going Nuts for Banana Bread!

I got to say homemade banana bread is amazing. I have been obsessed with this recipe for a few weeks now.

Ingredients

  • 1 Stick (1/2 Cup) Butter
  • 3 Large Ripe Bananas
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a loaf pan (I use the disposable metal ones) with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Add the stick of butter to a large bowl and microwave for 1 minute, or until melted. If you can believe it… I don’t have a microwave so I improvise with a pot of hot water. BE CAREFUL the bowl is hot 🔥!
  • Add the bananas to the same bowl and mash with a fork. I used a mixer attachment and it mashed perfectly.
  • Add the vanilla extract and egg to the bowl and use the same fork to mash and stir until no yellow streaks of egg remain.
  • In a second large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix together with a spatula just until combined.
  • I also add copped walnuts.
  • Pour the batter into prepared loaf pans and bake for 45-55 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center of the bread comes out clean.

I usually check them about 35mins in and put tinfoil on top if they need a few mins more.

I top my pieces off with apple butter and my hubby likes crunchy peanut butter.

Bon Appetite!
